The spinning of Earth's molten iron core creates a lot of energy. This energy creates electric currents in Earth's crust. Electric currents give rise to magnetic fields. Earth's magnetic field is created by the the electric currents in Earth's crust. Magnetic fields induce electric currents.
If Earth's core slows down, it will cool. If it cools, it will solidify. Then, several hundred thousands of years later, the magnetic field will die.
A dynamo converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. Since the core is moving, it's mechanical energy.
