Although most known for his work in electromagnetism, there is an interesting event that occurred when he was a young man. Maxwell participated in a challenge in which the leading professors and scientists of the day were asked what they theorized Saturn's rings were made of. Maxwell theorized they were made of rocks. He was right and was awarded the equivalent to $75.
Michael Farraday

Farraday broke a lot of ground when he dissevered electromagnetic fields, magnetic induction and poles. He also invented the Farraday cage. Maybe you've seen this at the Museum of Science electric show.
Andre-Marie Ampere

He studied the relationship between electricity and magnetism. He studied how magnets can move electric currents.
